It has been a little while since I have been back from Austin, Texas where I spent a entire weekend with Mike Dillard and his great team.  As part of his Elite Mastermind Group this was the first time we had been together.  Mike split us up into two groups so that he could devote more time to each person exclusively.  Half went in July and I was in the August group.

If you ever have an opportunity to do something like this, please just go for it.  What you will learn will be invaluable.

There were about 18 of us in the Group and Mike took half an hour or so with each person while the rest of us listened.  When it was our turn we could ask Mike whatever we wanted.  He also critiqued our capture pages, sales pages, blogs etc. and gave immediate feedback on what we needed to do to improve them.  Naturally, this was a highlight for each of us.

However, it was equally as productive for us to listen to the feedback he was giving to everyone else.  There would be questions that you had forgotten to ask that someone else would ask and the entire group then benefited.

There were people involved in various different types of businesses….but what Mike was teaching covered the entire spectrum.

It was at this Elite Mastermind Event that I made the decision to change companies.  My passion has always been health and the company I was in at the time dealt with financial education.  There is no question that it’s an area that is extremely important, especially in this day and age but my heart was more attuned to the health field as opposed to the financial field.

So I made the change.  Now the wonderful thing about doing something like that is when you follow Mike’s teaching,  it’s really all about you.  People are wanting to do business with you and not your company or product.  So if you get everything set us as Mike shows us to do in Traffic Formula 2 then making a switch in companies is not going to be a big deal.

You will hear many people say that it doesn’t matter what the product is….it’s all about the marketing.  I disagree with that opinion.  I truly believe that if the product is not something that people really need and want, then you are making life and your business much harder that it needs to be.

You are definitely going to be more successful selling a product that has wonderful benefits for just about everyone.  Really….that’s a marketers dream come true.

More and more people are starting a home-based business these days.  They have been forced into a corner due to the economy and the possibility that any day now they will lose their job that they have held for umpteen years.  They are joining the ranks of the self-employed.   Most of them have never worked for themselves before.  If you are one of them, then you might find these five keys to success very helpful.

THINK BIG Our thoughts are extremely powerful.  We actually create our future with our thoughts.  If we are thinking small, then undoubtedly our results will likewise be small.  It takes no more energy to think big than it does to think small.  This might necessitate a whole new way of thinking for you but believe me when I say that you literally think your way to success.  Don’t be your own worst enemy by underestimating your ability to accomplish your goals.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF Don’t allow yourself to be influenced by what other people think of your ideas.  They might even be your closest friends or family.  It’s not that they don’t want to support you, but often, in their minds, they are trying to protect you from failure.  However, to be a success you are going to have to learn to handle failure.  All highly successful people have failed numerous times.  They have learned from their mistakes and moved forward with their dreams.

SHARE THE VISION Don’t keep your goals to yourself.  Share with others what your plans are.  This can have a powerful effect on your mindset, keeping you accountable for your actions.  Just one word of caution here though…choose carefully the people you share your goals with.  There is no point in choosing someone that is not going to be supportive.

FOCUS AND EXECUTE It won’t take you very long to realize that success is not going to arrive on your doorstep by osmosis.  You have to be very clear about what it is you want to accomplish.  Write your goals down….both long term and short term goals.  Create a plan of action and commit this to paper also listing the steps you are going to take to achieve your goal.  Celebrate as you achieve each small step towards the ultimiate goal,  realizing that each success takes you one step closer.

NEVER, EVER GIVE UP I am sure you have heard this before.  It’s so easy to say never give up, but that’s what the majority of people do when the going gets tough.  That’s when most people tell themselves that they must have been crazy to think that they could make a go of it.  This is the time when you have to dig deep and understand that you were created with the ability to be, do and have whatever you want. It’s not going to be given to you on a silver platter, but with the proper knowledge and consistent effort, it can and will be yours.

Set yourself up for success by paying close attention to these five keys and you will be well on your way to realizing your dreams.

We are definitely living in difficult times right now.  Many people who have had a secure position for numerous years, are in fear of losing their jobs.  Companies that have been around for decades are closing their doors and the fallout is devastating, not only for the companies, but also for all the dedicated workers who suddenly find themselves unemployed.

Because of this, thousands upon thousands of people are searching for an alternate way to earn a living and to provide for their families.   Perhaps they have read the books written by Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki.  Both of these financial experts advocate being self-employed and recommend starting a home-based business as the No.1 solution.

Even though it comes highly recommended by the experts, the majority of people are literally terrified at the idea.  For most of their working lives they have worked for someone else and they have given very little thought to becoming self-sufficient.

Starting one’s own business is a major decision but it doesn’t have to be a difficult one.  Right now, today, there are very few alternatives.  Even if you are middle aged, it is definitely possible to learn the necessary steps to become a successful self-employed person.  Anyone is capable of starting their own business, regardless of age, gender or experience.

I started my own business when I was well over the age of 60.  I had next to no computer experience but that didn’t hold me back.  You must realize that if you want something badly enough, you are going to find a way to accomplish it.  It isn’t going to happen by wishful thinking though.  Once you have formalized your goal,  you then have to set up a plan and put it into action.

Some of you might have to acquire certain skills, depending on the business you choose.  If, like me, you want to get into internet marketing, then you are going to have to learn how to set up your own blog or website and study ways to drive traffic to your site.  I would recommend that you figure out your strengths and weaknesses and then concentrate on those strengths.  For example, if you enjoy writing, then find out all you can about generating leads with article writing.  Become really experienced at this one skill before you move along to another.

If you look closely at all the top internet marketing companies, you will find people of all ages amongst the top twenty earners.  The top earner in one Company that I am involved with, is an 81 year old man.  He actually didn’t even join the Company until he was well into his 70s.  He is an inspiration to everyone and people are lined up to be taught by him.  His is now a multi-millionaire.   Age has no bearing on our ability to succeed.  If we think we are too old….then guess what?….we are too old.  Never underestimate the power of your thoughts.  Youth doesn’t have a corner on the market when it comes to thinking ability.  If you can think it, you can do it!  It really is as simple as that.

So get your goal clear in your mind, draw up a plan and then take action.  That’s what is takes to succeed….and one more thing….never, ever give up!

Yes….there is no question about it…we are living in very difficult times. Every day, thousands of people around the world are losing their homes and their jobs. They know they have to do something, but the thought of starting their own business  frightens them. They have never stepped outside their comfort zone before. They have been so used to that paycheck coming in on a regular basis.  It takes a certain type of person to be willing to go out on a limb and become an entrepreneur. However, because of the economic climate, so many people are now entertaining the idea of owning their own business.  They are giving it serious consideration, due in part to the circumstances they find themselves in.

So what are some of the reasons why you should start your own business? Perhaps one of the following four will resonate with you.

• The times have changed drastically and no one can feel secure working for someone else anymore. Companies that have been around for decades are closing their doors. When they do that, all those ‘lifetime’ jobs are gone in a flash. The only way to be secure is to rely upon yourself. You might find this a very scary proposition, but with the proper knowledge and training, you can be very successful running your own home-based business. It actually means that you are now your own boss and you call all the shots and you don’t have anyone telling you what to do and constantly looking over your shoulder.

• Your income potential has increased significantly. You are the creator of your own income level. No matter how good a worker you were when you were an employee, you were at the mercy of the Company. During the last number of years, the Company might have even had to ask you to take a reduction in pay as well as hours….not because they wanted to, but because if they didn’t, they wouldn’t be able to continue to do business.

• You get to select the type of work you want to be involved in. Up until now, while working your JOB, you have had to do whatever it was your boss assigned to you. You actually might not have even been working in a field that held much interest for you. You stayed with the job because it was secure and you could rely on your monthly paycheck coming in on a regular basis. Now, you have the freedom to do whatever it is you really love to do.

• Another great benefit is that you can now control your own time. Perhaps you were in a 9.00 - 5.00 job but you actually work better between the hours of 1.00 - 8.00 p.m. No problems…with a home-based business, your time is now your own. One work of caution thought….if you are not disciplined with your time, you might not be as productive as you need to be to run a successful business.

Starting a home-based business is both exciting and challenging at the same time. You will probably need a certain amount of training in marketing and operations. If you have a sponsor,  then you will likely have training provided. Take full advantage of this and don’t procrastinate. Success usually involves taking massive action.

Don’t let a day go by without taking a positive step towards reaching your goal. No race is won unless the person puts one foot in front of the other, and it is no different in your race to be a successful entrepreneur. The rewards are infinite and you will probably wonder why it took you so long to step out there on that limb and become your own boss.

People living in North America have the very best opportunity to create their future and become a millionaire, if that is what they want.

You might be very surprised to learn that a person from another country becomes a millionaire in the United States, five times faster than someone who is born there.  That begs the question…why would that be?    You might be surprised at the answer.  It’s because they want it more.  I can hear the cries now of some of you strongly disagreeing.

The truth of the matter is that they are willing to do whatever is necessary to make their dreams come true.  I don’t mean by doing something illegal but by puting their every effort into learning what’s necessary and then drawing up a plan of action and getting to work.

They realize that they are going to have to leave their comfort zone and accept the fact that there are going to be failures along the way.  All successful people have failed numerous times.  They learn from their mistakes and get right back on the horse, so to speak, riding at full speed.

I came across this poem by an unknown author.  I think it’s profound in its message.  Here it is…

So, stop selling yourself short.  There is no shortage of anything in this world except for ideas and desire.  Go ahead and think bigger thoughts, dream bigger dreams.  Leave your comfort zone and create the future you have been longing for.

Very few people are actually living the life of their dreams.  Are you?  In all liklihood you are not.  So then, what’s the problem….why aren’t you?  If could be for one of the following reasons:- you have been conditioned since childhood that you were not good at anything in particular; you are afraid to lose the measure of security you presently have; you have lost your sense of wonder and you have stopped dreaming about a great future for yourself and your family; you have believed all the negative comments people have made about your dreams and ideas; you have backed away from success because of a fear of failing. When we were children, life was full of wonder.  Much of our time was spent role playing and fantasizing. Our lives were full of adventure and excitement.  So where did all that wonder go? We might not be able to identify or remember how it was suppressed and by whom and it’s not necessary that we do.  However, it is necessary for us to understand that we can have that wonder back again.  Children are often told not to be so silly and to act more grown up.  If they are told this often enough, they begin to believe that their behaviour is wrong and they start to hold back.  Eventually they lose all their sense of wonder. So, the first thing we want to do is take time out of our busy schedules to sit in a quiet location, without any distractions, and learn how to dream again.  Ask yourself the question….”What would I be doing with my life right now, if I knew that I absolutely could not fail?”  Let your mind roam freely and have a pen and paper handy to jot down the thoughts that come to mind. For example, as a child you might have had a real interest in cooking and would ask your Mother if you could help in the kitchen.  Without thinking, she might have told you that she was the expert and you knew nothing about cooking and you were just in her way.  You eventually began to believe that you would never be any good at cooking.  That negative thought was planted in your brain at a young age and you probably never even realized it, as it is locked somewhere deep in your subconscious mind.   So perhaps it could be a goal of yours to become a chef.  Write it down in your notebook. Once you have determined what it is you really would like to accomplish, then the next thing is to do a little research on the steps you have to take to to make that happen.  Perhaps you have to take a few courses.  The person in the previous example, might now sign up for Cooking Classes.  Maybe you have decided that you would like to run your own home-based business.  You will have to learn what you need to do to make this happen. Now comes the part where most people get stuck…..you have to take action.  There’s just no getting around this fact.  Knowledge is never, ever enough.  You have to dive right in and get started.  You are going to make mistakes along the way….even the most successful business person does.  Learn from your mistakes and keep moving ahead.  Success happens a step at a time…..take some action each day towards your goal and before you know it you will have arrived.  Every step takes you closer to your destination.  Make sure you enjoy the journey along the way!!

It is evident that an enormous shift has been taking place in the business world over the last little while.  Due to the severe economic situation, more and more people are taking the initiative and starting up their own businesses.  This has created a new age….yes, the age of the entrepreneur is coming into its own.

The question that then begs to be asked, is whether this is a wise decision.  If you know any entrepreneurs yourself, then you will agree, that for the most part, they have very big ideas but their budgets don’t  quite match.  The result of this is that many of these businesses have been very limited in their ability to compete with their larger competitors when it comes to marketing.

That being the case, the new entrepreneur, with little funds to spend on marketing, has to be creative.  Enter Web 2.0.  Now small businesses can take full advantage of this free avenue of getting their name and brand out there for next to nothing.   Web 2.0 comprises of the social networking media.  This includes YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Squidoo and literally hundreds more websites that are all free.

There are many other free sources.  Having your own blog is a wonderful idea and if you use WordPress.com then everything is taken care of for you.  However, if you are going to be a serious entrepreneur I would recommend you use WordPress.org and host your own blog.  You will then have complete control over it and it’s content.  Another free source is article marketing.  This article you are reading right now if an example of that.

Sometimes fear or plain ignorance holds a person back.  It is important to work on your mindset and get clear as to why you want to have your own business.  If you do not have a strong enough “why”, then when the going gets tough, and it undoubtedly will, you will probably not hang in there.  As far as ignorance is concerned, this is one of the easiest obstacles to overcome.   There is so much free information out there just for the taking.  You will have to do a little research on the Internet but  you will find all sorts of help waiting for you there.

There are also so many wonderful instructional books.  I have an armload of them.  Most times I can get my answers just from these.  Amazon.com is a great place to check out helpful books.  Many are written for the beginner and are presented in an easy to understand manner.

Even though you can become your own boss with very little financial investment, there is still going to be an investment….not of money….but of your time, hard work, perseverance and patience.   Yes, this is indeed the age of the new entrepreneur.  The experts have gone on record as saying that more millionaires will be created in the next ten years, than at any other time in history.   Don’t let this golden opportunity pass you by.  Believe it or not, right now at least one in eight households in the States has their own home-based business.
