This coming Friday I am off to Austin, Texas to spend two full days with Mike Dillard and his team.  I am part of his Elite Mastermind Group and this will be the first live meeting I will be attending as part of his Group.

I know I will be taking reams of notes and will be prepared to get right down to work when I get home.

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to have mentors.  It can shave literally years off the learning curve on your way to becoming a successful internet marketer.

I know Mike is a great believer in attraction marketing.  I have read numerous books about this subject but I am sure I will be learning some very important additional golden nuggets this coming weekend.

This will also be my very first time visiting Texas.  I’m ready to go already!!

*     Why are you doing the things you are currently doing?

*     What is motivating you to go to your JOB each and every day?

*     Why do you overeat at every meal?

*     Why do you sit watching the TV every night instead of going for that walk you always talk about?

The questions could go on and on….but do we really ask ourselves these questions with the view to actually answering them.  Most of us just make off-the-cuff comments about the way we conduct our lives.  Yes, we halfheartedly ask the questions but do nothing to come up with meaningful answers.

For us to properly answer any of these types of questions, we have to understand why we are doing certain things.  Let’s just take the second question as an example.  What is the motivating force that has you going back every day to your JOB, whatever that might be?   You could be a teacher or you could be a six-figure income earner in a top corporate company.  It makes no difference what your job is when it comes to personal self-examination.

Obviously, you are the only one that can accurately answer the question, but here are some possible reasons, depending on the particular job you have:

*     You have no education, so this is all you are qualified to do;

*     This was the profession your father was in and you went to University to get the proper education to qualify;

*     You have a family to provide for so you have to feel safe and secure in your job;

*     You need to know a certain amount of money is coming in every week to pay your bills;

*     There is a lot of prestige that goes along with your position;

*     People in the community respect you and that makes you feel good.

These are just a few examples….there are many more reasons that have you going each day to the same job.

The question now is whether you are going there for all the right reasons.  Most people think they are in full control of their lives, when in actual fact, life is just happening to them and it is not a result of any meaningful thoughts or actions on their part.

Probably one of the first questions to ask yourself in relation to your job is whether this is really and truly what you want to be doing with your life.  If you could be anything you wanted to be, without having to worry about finances and other factors, what would you be?  What was your dream as a child or a young person and why did you veer away from that dream?

I am not saying that you can instantly make major changes in your life but unless you ask these crucial questions, you are probably never going to achieve the things that are truly in your heart.  You might not be able to make a huge leap at the present time, but I am sure that there would be some step you could take in the right direction.  I recall a story about a woman who longed to be a pianist as a youngster but, as is often the case, life happened.  Before she knew it, she was married and had a few children to care for.  She had a part-time job at a local grocery store.

She went through this exercise and realized that her dream of being a pianist was still there.  She then made the conscious decision to sign up for piano lessons and little by little she became more and more proficient at playing the piano.  Soon she was playing on Sunday at her local church and later she was invited to play at a few concerts.  She is continuing to improve and is looking forward to actually becoming a piano teacher herself and she says she could not be any happier.  She will be able to work from her home and therefore there will be little to no disruption in her ability to take care of her family.

Until we engage in some self-examination, it’s not likely that our lives with change in any measurable way and we will continue to be like fallen leaves just blowing aimlessly in the wind.

So let’s do everything for all the right reasons and our lives will certainly then be meaningful and fulfilled.

Yes, today is Mother’s Day.  I personally think that these designated days for a particular person, like Moms and Dads etc. are created for the purpose of generating business.  Now before you jump all over me, let me explain.

I am not saying that I do not think that Mothers and Fathers should not be honored.  I believe that they should be honored every single day.  Think about this for a moment….as a Mother which would you prefer…to have a child that showed you love and consideration on a daily basis or one that paid you very little heed during the year but sent you a bunch of flowers on Mother’s Day, because it was the thing to do.

I am sure that there are many children out there who care deeply for their mothers, but they don’t have any money to buy them something.  A mother is going to appreciate a hand made card from a child probably even more than a fancy gift, because it has come from the heart. 

As a mother, I have a little drawer with a few hand made gifts from my son when he was a young boy.  He is going to be 36 yrs. old this year and I treasure these little things more than any gift he could buy me in the store.

My own mother and my mother-in-law have both passed away now but I look back fondly on the fact that both my husband and I expressed our love to them by our words and actions, as often as we were able.  We didn’t need a special day to be told to do this.

Please, when tomorrow comes, don’t forget your Mom.  Until you yourselves are parents, you will not understand how precious and meaninful your loving expressions are to them.

So, first of all what actually is a mentor?  According to the Webster’s dictionary it is ‘a wise and trusted adviser’.  We can all do with helpful advise now and again.  However, a mentor is a lot more than just a person we talk to occasionally who gives us some wise counsel.

A mentor is usually someone older than us, but this is not always the case.  Naturally, we assume that someone older than us is also more knowledgeable.  However, if we are starting something new and know absolutely nothing about it, then it is quite possible that someone even many years younger than us would be the most helpful.

For example, let’s say you are middle  aged and you have just started a home-based internet marketing business.  You are not internet savvy and neither are any of your friends.  So what do you do?  The answer is to search for a person who is very familiar with this information and can show you the ropes.  In this case, it would more than likely be a younger person, as they have grown up with this technology.

So how do you go about finding yourself a mentor?  There are a number of ways to do this.  First of all you could ask around for a suitable ‘match’.  You want to be specific regarding your needs.  For example, if you need someone to help you with internet marketing, then you wouldn’t want to be matched up with someone who could only help you with public speaking.

Take the time to think back on the people you have met in the past.  Perhaps they might not be able to help you personally but what about their grown or teenage children.  Don’t be afraid to ask — the worst thing that can happen is that they say no.  If they don’t agree to mentor you, don’t take this personally.  The arrangement needs to be a mutual one, for it to work.

Just don’t stop looking.  The most successful people are those who never give up!

There is nothing negative about needing a mentor.  The most brilliant people of the past have nearly always had mentors.  The great thing about a mentoring program, is that when you become proficient at what you needed to learn, you then become knowledgeable and are in turn able to help and mentor others.

I have been very fortunate to have had many mentors throughout my life.  Right now a few of my mentors are very young, bright people who really know their way around internet marketing.  They include Mike Dillard, Frank Kern, Yanik Silver and Jonathan Budd….all very knowledgeable and generous folks.

Probably everyone that you talk to today is familiar with the concept of positive thinking and it’s power.  However, I have found, in talking to many people, that even though they have attempted to utilize this power of thought, they have been very disappointed with the results.  For some, it seemed to be a hit and miss thing.  For others, it was a complete failure.

Why would it work for some people and not for others…and for those that did have some measure of success with it, why did it only work occasionally.  Should we then assume that the power of positive thinking is a fallacy?  So many books have been written about the subject, many ending up on the New York Best Sellers list, that surely there has to be something to it.

I have spent a number of years studying the mind and the power of thoughts.  What a great number of people fail to realize, is that our sub-conscious mind is so much more powerful than our conscious mind.  That being the case, we most often end up sabotaging ourselves because we do not understand the power of what is locked in our mind at the sub-conscious level and how it prevents us from accomplishing our goals.

I highly recommend a book by Dr. Robert Anthony, entitled “Beyond Positive Thinking.  A No-Nonsense Formula for Getting the Results You Want”.  In his book, Dr. Anthony explains the primary functions of the sub-conscious mind and how we have to go about reprogramming the information buried inside.

For example, our goal might be to buy that waterfront property that we know is coming on the market next year.  We think constantly about it and we have written affirmations that we recite daily.  We have even made ourselves an impressive ‘vision board’ with a large full color picture of us standing outside the home.  We have blown the picture up and it practically covers the entire board.  We spend time each day looking at it and imagining living in that home.

Fast forward a year and we find that nothing has moved us closer to owning that dream property.  What could be the reason for that?  Well, one of the main reasons is that on a sub-conscious level we have imprinted in our memories something that leads us to believe that we perhaps cannot afford it, or maybe that we are not worthy of owning it.  Until we can identify these negative thoughts that are buried deep in our sub-conscious, and reprogram them, we are not going to be able to move forward and achieve our goals.

So when there is no conflict between the conscious and the sub-conscious minds, our positive thinking and upbuilding affirmations will more than likely result in a successful outcome.  Where there is a conflict, it is 100% certain that the sub-conscious will win out.  It is literally thousands upon thousands of times more powerful than our conscious mind.

Positive thinking is obviously always the better way to go but to ensure that we get the results we are looking for, we have to do a detailed self-examination and understand the hidden and locked-in negative thinking that could be holding us back from the desired outcome.

I truly believe that everything is possible, but we have to do a little homework to get there…just thinking it so,  is not going to do it!!

Each and every one of us can have whatever our heart desires.  Clear those negative memories from your sub-conscious and you will be well on your way to the success that you deserve.

So you have decided to go ahead and start your own business.  Let me be the first to congratulate you, but also let me be the first to warn you about jumping into choosing a name that is not a good fit for either you or the business you have chosen.

One very important thing to remember is that once you have registered your domain name and you have set up your website, started advertising and getting leads coming in…at that stage of the game it’s already too late to make a domain name change very easily if you realize you have made a poor decision.  It would mean starting all over again.  So, let’s see how we can avoid that scenario.

Here are five mistakes that people often make when picking their domain:

• THE DOMAIN NAME HAS VERY LITTLE RELEVANCE TO YOUR BUSINESS. This is a very serious mistake because when prospects reach your website and you are not providing them with the information they are expecting, then they are going to quickly leave your site, never to return again.  You want to choose a name that will immediately tell your prospect something about your business and what they can expect when they visit your website.
• THEY DO NOT CHOOSE THEIR OWN PERSONAL NAME. If you are interested in building a reputation for yourself on the internet, then it is a very good idea to purchase your own personal name as soon as possible.  You might not use it immediately, but if you do become very successful, you might find that someone else has purchased your name so that they can capitalize on your success.  I have actually seen this happen with a very famous internet marketer.  He was not able to get his personal name without adding a tag to it.
• THEY CHOOSE DOMAINS THAT ARE CONFUSING. You want your domain name to be easily understood.  If you are reciting the website address to someone over the phone, you want them to be able to write it down without you having to go over it a number of times for them.  For instance, if your site was ‘help4you.com’ that could be confusing.  Some people might type in ‘helpforyou.com’.  It is best to stay away from using numbers that could also be words.
• THEY PUT DASHES IN BETWEEN THE WORDS IN THEIR DOMAIN NAME. You want to choose a name that is easy to type.  If you are like me, you find typing in website addresses with dashes to be an annoyance.  You want people to be able to reach you easily and dashes just don’t cut it!
• THEY DON’T CHOOSE A DOMAIN NAME WITH LASTING POWER. You need to choose a domain that will serve you for the long haul.    There is no point in getting a “fad” name that will lose it’s meaning in the near future.  This name is going to represent you and your business so choose one that you are going to be comfortable with for many years to come.

Well, there you have it.  Have fun brainstorming for your perfect domain name.  If you come up with a few that you just love and that are still available, I advise you to go ahead and get them.  You don’t have to do anything with them right now.  Many people have been very disappointed when they returned later to purchase a particular domain name, only to find that in the meantime it had been taken.  Don’t be disappointed…grab that name, if it’s a good one.

Your domain name is like a snapshot of you…make sure it depicts you in a favourable light.

There are so many aspects to doing business on the internet that you will want to decide a few areas that you would like to specialize in.  For instance, you could choose to write articles and do videos.  If that was the case, then you would want to find yourself a mentor who was experienced in teaching article writing and a mentor who taught the ins and outs of doing an effective video.  These people are definitely out there…I have used them myself.

Don’t fall into the trap of using just one person for all things.  No one is great at everything.  When you do end up with a short list of mentors, do your research on them personally.  Check out testimonials about them.  Do these testimonials sound genuine to you?

If you do go ahead and sign up with a mentor or two, make sure you check out their guarantee first.  It has been my experience that the better gurus always offer a money back guarantee which can run anywhere from 30 days to even one whole year.  It is really true when they say “what have you got to lose”.  There is such a vast amount of education out there for a reasonable price, that you can be educated and making money on line in no time at all.

With the state of the World economy these days, more and more people are considering starting their own home based business and for the most part, that would involve internet marketing.

The idea of reaching millions of people with your product or information is very exciting but the truth of the matter is, internet marketing is not a walk in the park.  Even for people who have had years of business experience in the corporate world, this is a whole new ball game.  A great deal of time, money and resources can be wasted if you do not have the proper direction and you will definitely not be producing the results that you hoped for.

Much has been written about how beneficial it is for us to reflect on the things we are grateful for.  One of the main benefits, is that it puts us in one of the highest vibrational states possible.  We are actually in a state of abundance when we are in a state of gratitude and appreciation.

According to the Law of Attraction, when we actually focus on the many things we are grateful for, we end up getting more of those very things we focus on.  During the holiday season, when we are exchanging gifts with many people, don’t you find that the more grateful people are for the gifts we give them, the more inclined we are to want to continue to give them gifts.  Certainly, our motive for gift giving is not to receive in return.  However, it is human nature to welcome and enjoy a little appreciation.

How does it make you feel when you have spent a lot of time coming up with what you consider is the perfect gift for someone, and then they barely acknowledge it?  I know from my own experience, that it doesn’t feel good…I feel let down and hurt.  I might reason with myself this way “why would I want to give another gift to that person just so that I can experience this hurt feeling again?”

So we want to reflect on the things we are grateful for but let’s not forget to actually express our gratitude to others for how they enrich our lives.  Our sincere expressions uplift them and in some cases even make their day.

Appreciation and gratitude is a two-way street.  We want to reflect on all the wonderful aspects of our lives right now and be truly grateful for our blessings, but we don’t want to forget to voice our appreciation and gratitude to all those around us who are caring, kind and considerate towards us.  For instance, how pleasant were you to the clerk at the grocery store this morning, or to the waitress that brought you your lunch yesterday?

Trust me when I say we can make an enormous difference in peoples lives with just a smile and a kind word.  Try it and I promise you, you will not be sorry that you did.  The joy of making others feel good will come back to you a hundred fold.

Once we have decided on what is going to make us unique and make us stand out in the crowd, we have to find a way to be seen and heard.  The hottest way to create an identify and a following right now is through the Social Media.  Twitter seems to be No. 1 at the moment with Facebook and YouTube following closely behind.  It’s necessary to have a presence on all three of these sites and by branding yourself as only you can, you will be recongized immediately because of your authenticity.

It is crucial to interact with others.  You want people to get to know you as a person…someone they come to like, trust and ultimately follow closely.  Make sure you reply to any messages that people send you.  Acknowledge them and thank them for wanting to be your friend on Facebook or for following you on Twitter.  If they leave a comment on your latest video, send them a thank you posting.  You would be surprised at how many people are so wrapped up in themselves, that they never acknowledge these people that are seeking a relationship with them.   Folks, this is called ’social networking’.  It’s all about getting to know people and helping them whenever we can.

I can assure you that if all you have in your head is dollar signs, then that will eventually become evident and people will drop you like a hot potato.  They have literally thousand of others to choose to follow and they will go where they can get some of their needs met.

There are no two people alike in this entire world.  You have to really get this!  You are going to strike a chord with people that relate to you and you alone.  They want to follow you and be taught by you.  This way, you will gradually build up a following.  These people will become your ‘list’ and will be happy to check out whatever it is you recommend, once they have come to know and trust you.  You don’t want to be one of the crowd, you want to stand out from the crowd!  It is possible….find your own uniqueness.
