I was introduced to Twitter about three months ago along with many other Web 2.0 sites. I decided to sign up as it looked like a great place to interact with others and meet people with similar interests as myself. I signed up for Facebook and YouTube at the same time.

I started to be active on all three sites and was learning as I went along. As far as Twitter was concerned, I was told that it was proper etiquette to follow back everyone that followed me. There was a tool available where you could automatically follow those following you and also post a tweet to them thanking them for following you. I set this up and started following people that I thought were interesting. Some of those people also were using this particular tool so they automatically followed me back. However, a number of people did not have the tool and for whatever reason decided not to follow me back.

I paid very little attention to the numbers as the weeks went on. There are three sets of numbers at the top right-hand corner of the home Twitter page. It lists “followers”, “following” and “updates”. I was being fairly active on the site and was posting a few times a day. Each day I would add a few more people to follow so my “following” number was increasing. I didn’t pay too much attention to how many people were following me back.

So just about a week ago I was adding more people that I wanted to follow when one of the follow requests would not activate. I thought that Twitter was having a technical problem so left it for a while. However, when I tried again, the same thing happened. I had no idea what was going on. I was still able to send out “tweets” (twitter messages) so I asked if this was happening to anyone else. I received a reply that I had received a “Twitter Slap”. Perhaps you have heard of the very common “Google Slap” where Google punishes you for not adhering to their rules and regulations. Well, this is much the same thing but obviously not anywhere near as serious.

It was explained to me that I was now following 2000 people but only 1700 were following me. Twitter has a rule that once you reach 2000 people you have to have a certain number of people following you back, otherwise they freeze you from continuing to follow others. So now I knew what my problem was….but how was I going to resolve it.

I did a little research and was amazed to find literally over one hundred different tools that you could use to enhance your Twitter experience. I was searching for something that would help me reduce the number of people I was following. I didn’t just want to go in and arbitrarily unfollow others, so I was looking for something that would make the job easier. For one thing I needed to know the people that were not following me back.

Here are the two tools that I highly recommend to get the job done.

friendorfollow.com – this will actually list all the people who are not following you back;

twitoria.com – this will list all the people you are following who have not posted for a while;

It then became an easy task to choose the people I wanted to unfollow so that I could free up my ability to follow others again. It has worked like a charm.

For those of you who are getting close to following 2000 people, it would be a good idea to take some action now so that you don’t run into this difficulty. I am sure there are other slaps but as of now, I don’t know what they are or when they will occur.

Down to the wire....the results of the three competitions with the 2009 Carbon Copy Pro 90 Day Challenge will be made known tonight at the wrap up Webinar.

Tonight we will find out who the winners in the following three categories are:

(a) The person who gets the highest in Google search for the term 2009 Carbon Copy Pro 90 Day Challenge; (right now it’s neck and neck between myself and someone else);

(b) The person who puts out the best video on Youtube about the CarbonCopyPro 90 Day Challenge (I suppose they will have to look at all of them to make a decision, so not sure if they will do that before we have the Webinar); I am surprised that so far only a handful of people have bothered to do a video;

(c) The person who adds the most followers to their Twitter following during the last seven days.

I think competitions like this are fun and they certainly serve another purpose altogether….that is to get you focused on your business and to take massive action.

This is what I have been doing all this week and I am looking forward to seeing the results of the above three mini-competitions.

I have learned so much this week and have stepped outside my comfort zone and tried different things.

Regardless of the results, it has been a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend the program to anyone that has the opportunity to take it.

I will post tomorrow and let you all know the results.

————————————–

I then purchased a little webcam and threw myself into making videos. I now have 26 videos uploaded to YouTube and I have 37 people actually subscribing to my YouTube channel, so that they can be informed whenever I produce a new video. People leave me very complimentary comments and thank me for helping them in one way or another with their business.

I started a Wordpress.com blog but have recently switched over to this Wordpress.org blog which I host myself. I am in the process of choosing and changing the theme for the blog. I am also learning to create my own capture pages. I have posted Press Releases and will be doing another one this week.

As of yesterday, I had 567 followers on Twitter and 685 following me on Facebook and I have developed many wonderful relationships by networking on these sites.

In retrospect, I realize that I have accomplished a great deal during the last 90 days but this is only the beginning. I believe tha

t there is no substitute to getting off on the right foot…it gives a person momentum and I intend to just keep motoring along to the finish line, all the time making sure that I am enjoying the journey.

I know you have all heard people say “if I can do it, anyone can”. Well, I think in my case it’s worth repeating. I am a 65 year old, retired woman, with no previous computer or marketing skills. If you have the desire to reach your goals, then believe me, nothing will stop you from accomplishing them. You will find that the right person will come along just at the right time or you will find the right information just when you need it.

It’s very exciting and I would like to encourage any of you that are thinking of starting your own home-based business, to go for it. There is no bette time than right now. All the financial gurus tell us that in the next ten years there are going to be more millionaires created than at any other time in history. There is no reason why you and I can’t be two of them.

If you have the chance this year to sign up for the next 2009 Carbon Copy Pro 90 Day Challenge, I recommend that you jump at the opportunity. You will learn so much and it will catapult you forward to achieving your dreams.

www.youtube.com/1jinny – If you would like to check out my videos

Have a great day!

I have been retired from my full-time position with the Government for many years. I had a very responsible job as District Manager for Health & Welfare Canada. However, I had no computer skills. My staff were the ones who knew their way around the computers and there was no need for me to learn about it.

Fast forward to November, 2008 when I decided that I was going to fulfill a goal of mine. That goal was to have my own home-based internet marketing business. I did my research thoroughly and decided on joining a Company called Carbon Copy Pro. What I loved about them was that they were a complete marketing system that had been developed to help solve problems most people faced in a home-based business and they provided them with all the tools to succeed. If you can imagine, they even closed the deals for you!!

I just happened to watch a video of their Convention in the Fall of 2008 and they mentioned a program that they were offering. If was called the Carbon Copy Pro 90 Day Challenge. I made a few phone calls and was able to register for this course. This evening was the last of the weekly webinars. We will have a wrap up webinar next week, on March 2, 2009. One of the instructors asked us to record our progress during this 90 day period.

This got me thinking about where I am today compared to where I was back in early December, when we had our first webinar. I had never written articles before, I had never done a video, I had never had a blog, or a Facebook or Twitter account. I had never even heard of half of these things.

In tomorrow’s blog I will tell you everything that has happened to me during the last 90 days….keep posted!! You won’t want to miss it!!!

Some of you might have heard a lot of buzz recently about the term “My Story Marketing”. What is is and what can it possibly do for your business? We all have our own personal story and it might be an extremely interested one, but if no one ever gets to read about it, then it’s not going to have any positive impact on our business.

So how do we get our story out there? The main avenue for doing this is through the social network marketing websites. Some of the more popular ones are Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, MySpace and Squidoo. Each one of these has unique features, but they all put emphasis on communicating with other people.

These sites are free to join and within a matter of minutes you can have your own page up and running, without the expense of setting up your own website. You now have the ability to pick and choose your prospects without the fear of rejection.

When people visit your page, you want them to get to know you. The first thing you should do is upload a picture of yourself. This will show at the top of your page. Nothing is more effective that photos, so it is recommended that you also add at least 8-10 photos of yourself. These should show various sides of you. Perhaps a few of you on vacation with your family, playing outside with your children, working in your office or just relaxing in the garden…you get the idea!

There is always a section on all these sites where you can tell visitors all about yourself. This is something that a number of people don’t properly utilize. Here is your chance to tell your story and connect with others. This is your opportunity to draw people in.

Introduce yourself and if you have your own website make sure you let people know what it is. Give them some information on your background…your education, your hobbies your previous jobs, how many children you have (if you have any).

Make sure that you identify a problem that you had in the past and give some details. Explain how desperate you were to find a solution. Don’t be afraid to be personal. There are going to be people reading your bio who will relate on a deep level with what you are saying.

Now you have their attention, you tell them about the solution that you found to your problem. A good phrase to use is “all that changed when….” Here you explain your business and how it has turned your life around.

A final and most important stage to “My Story Marketing” is your call to action. For some reason, people are afraid to ask for what they want. There can only be two responses…yes or no. So we have a 50% chance of getting what we want by asking for it. You want the person to now leave the social media site and visit your website, so just go ahead and ask them to do just that. In most cases, people do what they are asked or told to do and the result for us would then be a possible new lead.

“My Story Marketing” is extremely powerful. It is definitely not a get-rich quick scheme. You are in the business of building relationships. These will take time, just as offline relationships do.

Once you have built up these online relationships and people like and trust you, then and only then should you feel comfortable about introducing them to your business opportunity.

I would like to give you an example of the power of developing relationships with “My Story Marketing”. A friend of mine who had a very large following on Twitter, FaceBook and YouTube, just recently mentioned to his followers an opportunity that he thought was a good deal. He just told them to go look at it. They did, and within one week he had earned nearly $50,000 in affiliate commissions.

This is what’s possible through the power of social networking and developing your story and letting people get to know you.

For all of us who are involved in the internet marketing business, our biggest hurdle is that of generating leads. We could have the best and most economical product available, the coolest looking website and loads of free information to give out, but if no one is visiting our website, it’s all for nothing.

There are many video sites on the Internet, but the most popular one is YouTube. It is free to sign up and you can upload videos to your site in a very short period of time. I personally create my videos with the built in webcam on my computer. I usually edit them in Windows Movie Maker before I upload them to YouTube. If you don’t have software to edit your videos, YouTube has a built-in program so that you can make your video look more professional.

Each time you go to make a video check on your settings because the lighting will vary depending on the time of the day. You will sometimes have to make adjustments.

One thing to remember, especially as you are trying to create leads, is to have your website address periodically appear throughout your video. You have to remember that your video could be forwarded to other people and if they are not actually on your YouTube channel, then they will have no idea how to contact you. This is very easy to do with the annotations settings on YouTube.

Another very important thing to do is to make sure that your website address appears as the very first thing in your information section. Some people type their information and then put the website address at the end. However, if you take a good look at your page, you will see that only the first line or so will appear on the page. To read the rest of the material, the person has to click on ‘read more’. A lot of people will not bother to do that, so you must make sure that your web address is the very first thing that they see.

You are trying to attract leads, so how you come over on your videos is very important. Just be yourself and talk naturally. Look directly into the eye of the webcam and talk to it as if you were talking to your best friend who was sitting right in the room with you. Do as many practice videos as you feel is necessary, but don’t look for perfection. How many people do you know who are perfect? I thought so!!

Always extend an invitation to the viewer at the end of your video. You have to have a call to action that makes it clear to the person what you want him to do. People like direction and it’s up to you to give it to them.

Making videos is not only fun, it’s a great way to increase traffic to your website and generate those free leads.

Don’t just put one or two videos up on YouTube and think that is going to do it for you….you have to continually be feeding the ‘youtube monster’. It’s hungry and it wants to be fed often.

I suggest you make yourself a schedule and make recording videos a part of your regular weeks activities….now go and have fun with it!!

It is crucial to interact with others. You want people to get to know you as a person…someone they come to like, trust and ultimately follow closely. Make sure you reply to any messages that people send you. Acknowledge them and thank them for wanting to be your friend on Facebook or for following you on Twitter. If they leave a comment on your latest video, send them a thank you posting. You would be surprised at how many people are so wrapped up in themselves, that they never acknowledge these people that are seeking a relationship with them. Folks, this is called ’social networking’. It’s all about getting to know people and helping them whenever we can.

I can assure you that if all you have in your head is dollar signs, then that will eventually become evident and people will drop you like a hot potato. They have literally thousand of others to choose to follow and they will go where they can get some of their needs met.

There are no two people alike in this entire world. You have to really get this! You are going to strike a chord with people that relate to you and you alone. They want to follow you and be taught by you. This way, you will gradually build up a following. These people will become your ‘list’ and will be happy to check out whatever it is you recommend, once they have come to know and trust you. You don’t want to be one of the crowd, you want to stand out from the crowd! It is possible….find your own uniqueness.

If we want to stand out from the crowd then we have to take action of brand ourselves.

If you are wanting to be successful in the internet marketing field, then you are going to have to stand out from the crowd….and let me tell you, that crowd is a multitude!

Whatever it is you are selling, whether it be a product or information, there are literally thousands upon thousands of people who are selling the very same thing as you. How are you going to attract people to you and your website? How are you going to make them choose you over the next person? The only way to do this successfully is by branding yourself.

The meaning of ‘brand’ in the Webster’s disctionary, is a mark made by a hot iron, a trademark or a mark of infamy. We are all familiar with the process that takes place in branding an animal. This is done so that the animal is permanently identified as belonging to a specific owner. Fortunately for us, we don’t have to go to that extreme to brand ourselves! However, we do have to take some type of action to permanently identify ourselves and what we stand for. This is certainly going to be a lot less painful than hot iron branding but it is also going to be more time consuming.

We should first of all do some soul-searching and self-analysis. Ask ourselves these types of questions…what are our goals in life? What lasting impression do we want to leave others with? And are we willing to stay the course and be true to ourselves? These are just a few of the questions that will help us get to know ourselves better. This is very important, because once we have done the branding for all to see, it will be very difficult to make major changes. If people catch us out in inconsistencies, then they will look for someone else to relate to and follow.
